Eric Selland

Eric Selland has translated Modernist and contemporary Japanese poets for nearly forty years, with works appearing in a variety of journals and anthologies. He has also published articles on Japanese Modernist poetry and translation theory. He is the author of seven books of poetry, including Arc Tangent (Isobar Press, Tokyo, 2013). Eric has translated a number of contemporary novels as well, including The Guest Cat, by Takashi Hiraide, which was on the New York Times Bestseller list in 2014. His translation of poems by Kiwao Nomura, The Day Laid Bare (Isobar Press), was chosen as a Recommended Translation by The Poetry Book Society, UK for their winter 2020 season. His most recently published poetry translation is Kusudama, by Minoru Yoshioka (Isobar Press, 2021).
